About Gene

Congressman Gene Taylor of Bay St. Louis, Miss., has served South Mississippi voters since 1989. He serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and Armed Services Committee. Taylor chairs the Seapower and Expeditionary Forces Subcommittee and is a member of the Armed Services Readiness Subcommittee. He led committee and floor fights to improve the medical care benefits of military retirees, and to extend TRICARE health insurance to members of the National Guard and Reserves.

In August 2007, the National Guard Association of the United States (NGAUS) honored Congressman Taylor with the prestigious Harry S. Truman Award for "sustained contributions of exceptional and far-reaching magnitude to the defense and security of the United States in a manner worthy of recognition at the national level."

Since Katrina hit South Mississippi in August 2005, Congressman Taylor has been a champion for national Insurance Reform to assist home and business owners in the aftermath of natural disasters.
